Vanaand

A poem written in Afrikaans by a friend- FJ. English translation to follow . Best way to express my November; together with another poem shared earlier named ‘Wees net‘.

waaroor sal ek skryf
vanaand
op ñ stuk papier
op my hart se muur
as ek nie weet
wat more gaan bring?

waaroor sal ek treur
vanaand
as trane
jare terug
soutpanne lê
innie woestyn?

waarvoor sal ek hoop
vanaand
as hoop
vergete dwaal
inni stegies vannie stad
en hoop
vergete dwaal
inni stegies van die stad?

waaroor sal ek droom
vanaand
as drome in stukkies gesaai
met onheilwind
verwronge mosaik beelde rond waai?

waaroor sal ek lag
vanaand
as vreugde my ontwyk
soos die asem
van ñ lyk?

ENGLISH TRANSLATION :

What will I write about
tonight
On a piece of paper
on my heart’s wall
If I don’t know
What tomorrow will bring?

What will I mourn about
tonight
if tears
years back
Salt pans lie
In the desert?

What will I hope for
tonight
if hope
wanders forgotten
In the alley
of the city?

What will I dream of
tonight
When dreams sown in pieces
With evil winds
around waving distorted mosaic images?

What will I laugh about
tonight
When joy eludes me
like the breath
of a carcass?
